While you are decorating the house or baking cookies for the holiday season, why not try a new twist on hot chocolate?

Almond milk is super healthy. Some doctors like it better than cow’s milk due to the high calcium content (45% of your daily value in one cup), lower calories and no saturated fat or cholesterol. It’s also a great alternative if you are sensitive to lactose or gluten.

I have just recently started drinking almond milk instead of regular milk and it is delicious. I drink it straight with breakfast and also add it to my hot tea or coffee for a latte-style drink.

Almond milk is usually available in the dairy section or the health or natural foods section of your grocery store. It is smoother than soy milk and doesn’t have a chalky taste at all.

Here is a super easy hot chocolate recipe from Almond Breeze® brand almond milk. Almond Breeze® milk is available in Original, Vanilla and Chocolate.

ALMOND HOT CHOCOLATE

Ingredients:
2 cups Almond Breeze® Original
6 ounces bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa, plus more for garnish
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Place the chocolate and cocoa in a mixing bowl.  Heat Almond Breeze® in a
saucepan.  Pour over chocolate and cocoa and whisk well to melt and make
frothy.  Stir in vanilla.  If available, use a hand blender or hand mixer
to make it even more frothy on top.  Pour into mugs and serve immediately.
Dust with cocoa to garnish and serve with Chocolate-Covered Almonds.

If you would prefer something to enjoy after the kids are asleep or for your up-coming holiday party, check out the Almond Breeze® recipe for an Almond Hot Toddy.

The Almond Breeze® website suggests using almond milk in smoothies, in your hot or cold cereal as well as substituting it in for cow’s milk in recipes for pancakes and muffins.  They even offer a delicious use for your left over sweet potatoes – you have to check it out!

You can also like Almond Breeze® on Facebook.  The page is filled with comments and ideas and the Almond Breeze® folks are highly interactive answering questions and offering suggestions.

So when you sit down to address your holiday cards, put on some festive music and enjoy a warm cup of almond hot chocolate.
